Campaign Chairman,
“Your financial support to this campaign contributes to MS research. Thanks to Mr. Murdock and his generosity, the best-in-the-world research facilities and equipment now exist. Please join me in finding a cure and creating a world free of Multiple Sclerosis.” – Herman A. Stone
Herman Stone’s support of the National MS Society began over 15 years ago when his dear friend, Tom Sherak, then Vice Chairman of 20th Century Fox Distribution Group, learned that his daughter was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
In 2003, however, Herman’s commitment to the National MS Society changed vastly when Herman’s own daughter was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Then in 2007, his youngest son was also diagnosed with MS and Herman’s dream of solving the riddle of multiple sclerosis became an all consuming quest.
When Herman learned of David Murdoch’s North Carolina Research Campus and caught the vision of the world’s best and brightest minds working hand in hand every day to address the riddles and complexities of illnesses like cancer, heart disease, and others, Herman knew MS needed to be on that list and he set out to make it so. Through a time of tireless conversations, calls, and communications with members of State and Federal government, business leaders, and medical professionals, Herman asked for and held a meeting with David Murdock and asked if he could help Mr. Murdock realize his dream while seeking out his own –a world free of MS. Mr. Murdock opened his doors and pledged his help. Together, these giants of men have built a collaboration like none other in the world.
In partnership with the NC Research Campus, Duke University’s Translational Medicine Institute, the National MS Society, and the M.U.R.D.O.C.K Study, Mr. Stone is leading the effort to create a world free of MS.
His lead gift has guaranteed Dr. Gregory's work will continue until the job is done.
With a goal of $5.2 million, On the Shoulders of Giants: The Carolina's Campaign to Cure MS is the National MS Society, Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s first Chapter led and locally focused research campaign initially funding research and resources for this world-class research campus located in Kannapolis, NC.
The campaign will fund current and future research into the cause and cure of multiple sclerosis and provide vital funds to the visionary MS research team.
