The Visionary,

"

The generous investment and leadership of Mr. Herman Stone, in partnership with the National MS Society and Dr. Gregory of Duke University, is exactly the type of public-private partnership I envisioned for the NCRC. This campaign to cure MS is one of our most exciting early research efforts.

I want everyone to understand the importance of the Institute and the Campus... We’ve opened the door to research that will help everyone lead healthier, longer lives. World class resources will attract World class scientists.

"

-David Murdock

The David H. Murdock Research Institute (DHMRI) was established as a

public charity to support groundbreaking research –like Dr. Simon Gregory’s MS project –at the North Carolina Research Campus. Funded through a private grant by David H. Murdock, the DHMRI will host the world’s top talent and resources — and promote a level of scientific collaboration never before possible.

Central to this new collaborative approach are the diverse scientific disciplines represented at the DHMRI. Destined to be the catalyst of major scientific discoveries in health and nutrition, the DHMRI offers capabilities ranging from next-generation DNA sequencing to cutting-edge confocal imaging and the world’s first actively-shielded 950 MHz NMR. The DHMRI is the first of its kind, housing this unique collection of state-of-the-art instrumentation in one central location. Housed in the David H. Murdock Research Building, the DHMRI will cover over 80,000 square-feet of specialized laboratory space. Dr. Gregory’s lab is already up and running in this phenomenal space.
